| History: |
Peter Maher graduated from Monash University Melbourne in 1971.He finished his post-graduate degree in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1977 and after two years of further study in England returned to Australia and commenced practice.
After assisting Dr.Harry Reich in 1990 with the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in Australia he very quickly honed his skills in operative endoscopy.
He co-published the first Australian laparoscopic hysterectomy later that year in a letter to the Medical Journal of Australia.
He was a Founding member of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society and served on its ExCo until 1994 when he was unanimously elected President for the following four years.
He established the first dedicated Endosurgery Unit at the Mercy Hospital for Women the same year.
He sits on the International Advisory Board of both the American Association of Gynecolical Endoscopy and the Indonesian Society of Gynecological Endoscopy.
He served on the ExCo of the ISGE for the last four years and has this year been elected to the position of Vic-President (President Elect) of that Society.
He is widely published in national and international literature and has contributed to more than 10 books.
